Delivery of Slepp Activation Furnace Project for a Coal-Based Activated Carbon Plant
Activated Carbon Production
Project Background
A coal-based activated carbon manufacturer needed to expand activation capacity with stable iodine value, high output and high automation, while meeting continuous operation and environmental requirements. Based on the coal-based char feedstock and product positioning, a vertical Slepp activation furnace was selected.
Project Parameters
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Furnace type | Vertical Slepp activation furnace (multi-channel) |
| Feedstock | Coal-based activated carbon char |
| Design capacity | 2,000-4,000 t/a (by model) |
| Activation temperature | 800-950℃ |
| Activation medium | Steam |
| Furnace lining | Refractory masonry + insulation |
| Environmental package | Exhaust gas treatment + waste heat recovery |
Implementation
Delivered a vertical Slepp activation furnace with feeding, steam, temperature control, discharge and exhaust gas treatment systems. The furnace features a vertical multi-channel structure; the char moves downward continuously and contacts steam counter-currently for activation and pore formation. Multi-zone temperature control ensures uniform activation and reliable automation. Key milestones: equipment fabrication (months 1-2), installation (month 3), single-machine commissioning (month 4), furnace drying and process tuning (months 5-6), acceptance (month 7).
Results
| Indicator | Target | Actual |
|---|---|---|
| Design capacity | By model | Achieved |
| Product iodine value | Stable | Met |
| Activation uniformity | High | Met |
| Single-furnace capacity | High | On-spec |
| Exhaust emission | Compliant | Better than standard |
Customer feedback: The Slepp furnace offers high capacity, stable product quality and reliable automation, supporting capacity expansion.
