Rotary Activation Furnace Working Principle and Key Activated Carbon Process Parameters

Technical Support

How a Rotary Activation Furnace Works

A rotary activation furnace is one of the most widely used activation units. The inclined, slowly rotating cylindrical kiln moves carbonized feed continuously while steam reacts at high temperature to develop the porous structure of activated carbon.

Key Parameters

  • Temperature: commonly around 850–950℃.
  • Steam ratio: steam flow and temperature govern reaction rate.
  • Residence time: hours-scale, tuned by iodine / methylene blue targets.

FAQ

Q: Typical iodine value? A: commonly around 800–1100 mg/g depending on feed and process.
